ALPINE PASSIVE HOUSE

Modeled as a zero-energy Passive House in Colorado-Powered by a 6kW PV system, this 3 bedroom 2 bath home is on track to be one of the first certified passive houses in Colorado and potentially, the first straw bale passive house in the U.S. A partial wrap around porch protects two stories of prefabricated straw bale panels with lime plaster on both interior and exterior (plaster by Artesano).  A simple, compact plan, airtight construction detailing (final blower door tested at 0.6 ACH @ 50Pa), super-insulated envelope assemblies, and south facing glazing provide low annual heating demand.  Concrete floors and interior plastered walls provide thermal mass for winter heat storage and summer night cooling of mass.
